About DMMR

The objective of the department is to promote the development of the mineral resources of Arizona. This is accomplished through technical and educational processes, including field investigations, public seminars, publications, conferences and mineral displays; and by providing mining, metallurgical and other technical information and assistance to those interested in developing the mineral resources of Arizona.
In support of responsible mineral development the Board of Governors' adopted a new Position Statement in 2008.

The Department is a service agency and does not regulate or tax. The agency provides assistance that is tailored to meet the diverse needs of the public. The following is a partial list of services the Department offers.

  • Maintains a site specific data base of unpublished reports and maps that includes 4,000 mine files and a 10,000-record database of Arizona mineral deposits.
  • Maintains an information bank and reference library of mineral and mining information including a mine map library, (hard copy and microfilm), government publications, periodicals, and unpublished theses.
  • Produces publications in the form of mineral reports, annual directories, technical reports, mineral industry surveys, and information circulars.
  • Gathers and disseminates information on commodities and markets.
  • Operates the Arizona Mining and Mineral Museum.

Saturday 11:00 - 4:00 Museum Only
